Sell more through Instagram

For some time now business accounts have been able to tag products directly on images. Instagram is now testing a new option on some accounts: tagging products directly in the caption. This interesting addition helps draw prospective customers towards buying, since not everyone taps an image to see the tags — so it can double the chances of selling a product.

The feature is not yet available to every account, though. It could spread more widely once the popular network introduces Instagram Shops.

Make the most of video's growth

YouTube is adding a new advertising feature. Below video ads there is now an expandable list letting viewers browse particular products from the range, shown while the ad is still playing. Each product can carry a CTA button, which raises the chance of a click through to the merchant's site.

Facebook makes switching between accounts easier

Anyone managing several Facebook pages knows how tedious it is to click between personal and business accounts in Messenger. Now, if you tap and hold your profile photo in Messenger (as in the picture below), you can easily reach the conversations in your business account.

Messenger – switching between a personal account and a Facebook Page account

As Facebook itself put it: "As many as 90% of admins use Messenger to talk to family and friends and do not want to use further supplementary apps." You can manage your accounts through Page Manager as well, but it is simpler to check incoming messages when it is all in one place. You can also set up notifications here, which makes communication between you and your customers more efficient.

LinkedIn adds engagement remarketing for video and lead ads

This new feature lets advertisers build new audiences targeting users who watch video ads or interact with a Lead Gen form. It will roll out to accounts over the coming month.

Discovery Ads are now available globally

At Marketing Live last year Google introduced a new image ad format, Discovery Ads, which rolled out to accounts country by country. At the end of May, though, a global rollout was announced and they are now available to every advertiser worldwide. Discovery Ads build on the success of campaigns on FB, so if you have a visually interesting product that works for you on social media, Discovery Ads are an ideal format for you to test.

Something new in Google's Keyword Planner

A splendid addition to Google's Keyword Planner is that we can now group keywords better by product or service attributes — colour, size and so on. So if we are looking for a keyword relating to the problem of dry hair, we can now easily exclude product words such as shampoo or hair mask at the very first stage of the analysis, speeding up and simplifying the process of finding relevant keywords. For us, a splendid addition.

Maps refreshed

The Google Messaging app was a better idea than an experience — perhaps until now. The company has announced it is extending the options for messaging businesses in Maps and search.

Google Maps – Walmart store profile with a Message button for messaging

Google is extending the categories of business that would have access to messaging and is adding product features too: "smart replies, visual product carousels and unique welcome messages". Messaging on the platform (Android and Maps for iOS) can also move seamlessly from automated replies to a live agent where needed.

After 18 months Google will delete your location history automatically

This concerns the default auto-delete rules above all. If you have location history switched on, the data will now be deleted automatically after 18 months. Users can also delete their location data manually, or set auto-delete to run at three-month intervals.
