WordPress leads comfortably as the most widespread platform for building websites and e-shops. In total WordPress is currently used on more than 35.7% of all websites in the world, and it keeps moving forward. Let us look at a few advantages that may make it easier to decide whether to use WordPress or not.

1. Plugins

For WordPress and its e-shop extension WooCommerce there are countless plugins to make your work easier. There are free versions of plugins and premium versions, which are paid. Commonly the free version holds the basic functionality most sites can work with; if you want extended settings or features you will have to pay extra. Be careful when choosing plugins, though, and where possible discuss their use with a developer. Too many plugins could slow your site down unpleasantly.

2. Community and support

Because WordPress is so widespread, it has an enormous community of people who can help you with a problem. Whether developers themselves or ordinary users, who will advise where to click or which plugin to use or avoid.

3. Security

With WordPress, security is a frequently debated subject. It was long held that WordPress is poorly secured and not to be recommended — better to have the whole thing built bespoke. It is always worth remembering that any bespoke solution will be secured only as well as the developer who built it secured it. With WordPress, hundreds or thousands of people work on security. There is no denying that hackers try to attack it, but WordPress itself holds up rather well, and even where a small hole appears they close it swiftly. A frequent problem with WordPress sites is precisely bad hosting, or unverified — or pirated — plugins.

4. A fast start

Need to try out your idea? With WordPress you can click your first site or e-shop together in almost no time. You release it into the world and, if it works, you have a bespoke WordPress theme built, moving the data from your first site across without difficulty. That way you lose none of the leads or orders gathered on the old site.

5. Highly extensible with your own functionality

The WordPress core offers wide scope for extension, whether you decide to extend it through plugins or your own functionality. Among our favourite plugins for editing custom functionality is ACF. It has enormous scope for editing the data you want to manage.
